Oklahoma Centennial Announces Class Additions to the Show!

The Oklahoma Centennial Horse Show will be one of the first shows to feature the Elizabeth Goth Driving Challenge classes this year. The show will offer both classes for Junior Exhibitors to begin their journey to the finals in November. The Fine Harness class will be offered during the Friday evening session, and the Show Pleasure Driving class will be added to the Saturday session.

"We’re excited to support this driving challenge and hope that this will be a continued success story for our Oklahoma show", Karen Cunningham, Board Chair said. "In addition, we have been asked to bring back the 3-Year Old classes, and it looks like we’ll have great competition; with 3-Year Old classes for Park Pleasure, 3-Gaited and 5-Gaited being added to the Thursday morning session."

Due to popular demand, the show has also added two more Walk/Trot classes. These classes for ages 12 and under, will both be held during the Saturday session, so the Junior Exhibitors can work around school. So now there will be a total of four Walk/Trot classes.

"It appears that the show is really going to expand in numbers this year, and we want to provide classes to the exhibitors and trainers that meet their needs on an annual basis," Cunningham said. "We want the show to be very responsive to our customers and by adding these classes, we hope to demonstrate to the barns that we’re striving to be a show that listens and implements the suggestions provided."

The Oklahoma Centennial Horse Show will be held at the newly renovated State Fair Park in Oklahoma City April 9-12. Post entries are accepted. For a prize book, go to www.okcentennial.com.

The multi-breed 20th Annual Oklahoma Centennial Horse Show, will be held April 9-12, 2008 in the newly renovated equine facilities at the Oklahoma State Fair Park.

This show continues to grow in support, with the exciting addition of the National Show Horses this year. We’ve been chosen as the NSH District show, and we’re proud to have Nancy Becker from Nicolasville, Kentucky serving as the NSH judge.

“We are so excited to welcome the NSH breed, which will join the Morgan, Saddlebred, Roadster Horse & Pony and Hackney/Harness exhibitors”, said Karen Cunningham, board chair. “We believe our Oklahoma friendly hospitality, coupled with the wonderful facilities and great area attractions will be enjoyed by all who come to qualify.”

The Morgan, Saddlebred, Roadster, Hackney/Harness and Equitation judge will be Lewis Eckard from Hillenbrand, North Carolina.

The stalling areas will be in the new Super Barn at the fair park, a brand new state-of-the-art barn featuring a huge warm-up ring, new large permanent stalls and natural lighting. Plenty of wash racks, super wide hallways and 1,200 stalls will allow this to be the first year in our show’s history that all exhibitors will be able to stall in the same area. Our vendors will be able to display there, and our Exhibitor and Progressive Barn parties will all be held in the Super Barn. So it promises to be a lot of fun.

The classes will be held once again in the Arena adjacent to Barn 6, as construction continues on the coliseum arena. The Barn 6 arena is the same size as the coliseum, 120’ x 250’, but is more intimate in its seating capacity. The fair park has installed new audio in the arena, and there will be a fresh coat of paint just for us. We will have 3 covered warm-up rings to use. In response to comments from the trainers who travel so far to get to us, we will take possession of the barn, warm-up rings and show arena starting Sunday morning. This will allow trainers and exhibitors to move in early in they desire.

We have also revised the show schedule, adding and moving some of the junior exhibitor and walk/trot classes. Based upon great input from the Morgan exhibitors and trainers, we changed their schedule to allow the classes to flow better. We feel the Morgans will be pleased with the new exhibitor-friendly arrangement.
